The Chicago Blackhawks re-signed restricted free agent defenseman Ryan Stanton to a one-year contract on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old Stanton played one regular season game with the Blackhawks last season and practiced with the team throughout the playoffs. He had three goals, 22 assists and a plus-16 rating in 73 games for the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League last season.

Stanton was originally signed by the Blackhawks as a free agent on March 12, 2010.

The Blackhawks return their top-7 defensemen -- Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook, Johnny Oduya, Niklas Hjalmarsson, Nick Leddy, Michal Rozsival, Sheldon Brookbank -- from last season’s Stanley Cup team. Stanton and defenseman Adam Clendening, who was an AHL all-star last season, could also be in the mix for playing time with the Hawks next season.
