How it happened: The Blackhawks were outplayed by the up-and-coming Stars for the first two periods, but Patrick Sharp scored the equalizer at the 7:21 mark of the third period to tie the game at one. The game remained tied headed to the 11th round of a shootout, in which Ben Smith ended it for the Blackhawks with a goal. Corey Crawford stopped 28 of 29 shots for Chicago. Crawford did help the Stars score their goal late in the first period, losing the puck to Dallas center Shawn Horcoff behind the net. Horcoff made a nifty pass to Rich Peverley, who scored his fifth goal of the season for the Stars. Crawford redeemed himself with seconds left in overtime by stopping two shots, including a backhand at the front of the crease.
