The Chicago Blackhawks traded former first-round pick forward Kyle Beach to the New York Rangers on Friday for forward Brandon Mashinter.

Mashinter, 25, has played in six games for the Rangers this season and 23 career NHL games for the Rangers and San Jose Sharks. He had one goal, six assists and a plus-3 rating in 11 games with the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack this season. He will report directly to the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL.

Beach, 23, was drafted by the Blackhawks as the No. 11 overall pick in 2008. He was a restricted free agent after last season and was signed to a one-year deal in the offseason. He was loaned to HV71 of the Swedish Hockey League in September and returned to play for the IceHogs in October. He scored all four of his AHL goals this season in his past two games. He never appeared in any NHL regular-season or playoff games for the Blackhawks.
