Blackhawks Olympic update: Day 1

A number of Chicago Blackhawks were in action as Olympic men's hockey play began on Wednesday.

We'll keep you updated on how the Blackhawks are faring in Sochi throughout the Olympics. Here's an update from Wednesday's games:

Michal Rozsival, defenseman, Czech Republic
Rozsival and his Czech Republic teammates had a rough going in their first game of pool play. Sweden built a 4-0 lead on the Czech Republic, and Rozsival was on the ice for two of the first three goals. Sweden won 4-2. Rozisval finished with two shots on goal, a minus-two rating and played 24 shifts and 19:16 of ice time, which was third most among the team's defensemen. The Czech Republic plays next against Latavia on Friday.

Marcus Kruger, forward, Sweden
Kruger had his usual type of consistent game, playing on Sweden's fourth line with 17 shifts and 10:14 of ice time. He had one shot on goal, won 3-of-5 faceoffs and had a zero plus/minus rating. He also had one penalty, a hooking call in the third period. Sweden will play again against Switzerland on Friday.

Johnny Oduya, defenseman, Sweden
Oduya and Blackhawks teammate Niklas Hjalmarsson were kept together and were a defensive pairing on Wednesday. Oduya had one shot on goal, a zero rating and played 26 shifts and 17:28 of ice time. He was on the ice for a Sweden goal and a Czech Republic goal.

Niklas Hjalmarsson, defenseman, Sweden
Hjalmarsson had a similar game to Oduya. Hjalmarsson also had one shot on goal and a zero rating. He played 26 shifts and had 18:16 of ice time. He was fourth among the team's defensemen in ice time.
