The Chicago Blackhawks agreed to terms Monday with free agent defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk on a two-year contract, which will go into effect next season.

Van Riemsdyk, 22, had four goals, 19 assists and a plus-13 rating in 26 games this season as a junior at the University of New Hampshire. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound defenseman suffered a season-ending ankle injury Jan. 18.

Van Riemsdyk finished with 16 goals and 59 assists in 102 career games at New Hampshire. He was named a first-team All-American after the 2012-13 season.

Van Riemsdyk is the younger brother of Toronto Maple Leafs forward James van Riemsdyk.
