Prospect watch: Eight in NCAA tourney

Here’s a look at how some of the Chicago Blackhawks' prospects are doing throughout the world:

Stephen Johns, defenseman, Notre Dame (NCAA), drafted second round in 2010: The 21-year-old Johns, a senior, will be one of eight Blackhawks prospects to play in the NCAA tournament. He has eight goals, 12 assists, 61 blocks and a plus-seven rating in 39 games this season. The Irish play St. Cloud State in the tournament on Saturday.

Vince Hinostroza, forward, Notre Dame (NCAA), drafted sixth round in 2012: The 19-year-old Hinostroza, a freshman, has eight goals and 24 assists in 33 games heading into the NCAA tournament. He’s second on Notre Dame with 32 points.

Justin Holl, defenseman, Minnesota (NCAA), drafted second round in 2010: The 22-year-old Holl, a senior, has zero goals, 10 assists, 54 blocks and a plus-seven rating in 35 games this season. Minnesota plays Robert Morris in the tournament on Saturday.

Michael Paliotta, defenseman, Vermont (NCAA), drafted third round in 2011: The 20-year-old Paliotta, a junior, has five goals and 22 assists in 37 games this season. Vermont plays Union in the NCAA tournament on Friday.

Kevin Hayes, forward, Boston College (NCAA), drafted first round in 2010: The 21-year-old Hayes, a senior, finished the regular season third in the country with 56 points. He had 24 goals and 32 assists in 37 games. He was recently named among 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Award. Boston College opens the NCAA tournament with Denver on Saturday.

Chris Calnan, forward, Boston College (NCAA), drafted third round in 2012: The 19-year-old Calnan, a freshman, has four goals and eight assists in 12 games.

Luke Johnson, forward, North Dakota (NCAA), drafted fifth round in 2013: The 19-year-old Johnson, a freshman, had an assist and a plus-one rating in North Dakota’s 5-0 win over Western Michigan in the third-place game of the NCHC tournament. He has eight goals, 13 goals and a plus-eight rating in 39 games this season. North Dakota opens the NCAA tournament with Wisconsin on Friday.

Nick Mattson, defenseman, North Dakota (NCAA), drafted sixth round in 2010: The 22-year-old Mattson, a junior, had two assists and two blocks in North Dakota’s third-place win over Western Michigan in the NCHC tournament. He has four goals, 17 assists and a plus-nine rating in 37 games this season.

John Hayden, forward, Yale (NCAA), drafted third round in 2013: The 19-year-old Hayden finished his freshman season strong. He had three goals and five assists over his last nine games. He finished the season with six goals, 10 assists and a minus-three rating in 33 games.

Kirill Gotovets, defenseman, Cornell (NCAA), acquired via trade in 2013: The 22-year-old Gotovets finished his senior season with one goal, three assists, 56 blocks and a plus-five rating in 32 games. He had three goals, 16 assists and a plus-37 rating in 112 career college games.

Anthony Louis, forward, Miami Ohio (NCAA), drafted sixth round in 2013: The 19-year-old Louis, a freshman, did all he could to keep the RedHawks’ season alive. He scored two goals in their 4-3 loss to Denver in the NCHC tournament on Saturday. He also scored one goal the day before. He finished the season with 12 goals, 13 assists and a minus-four rating in 36 games.

Tyler Motte, forward, Michigan (NCAA), drafted fourth round in 2013: The 19-year-old Motte finished his freshman season with nine goals and nine assists in 34 games.

Sam Jardine, defenseman, Ohio State (NCAA), drafted sixth round in 2011: The 20-year-old Jardine, a sophomore, finished his season with one goal, 12 assists, 35 blocks and a plus-seven rating in 36 games.

Matt Tomkins, goaltender, Ohio State (NCAA), drafted seventh round in 2012: The 19-year-old Tomkins, a freshman, went 6-7-2 with a 2.78 goals-against average and .911 save percentage in 17 games this season.

Adam Clendening, defenseman, Rockford IceHogs (AHL), drafted second round in 2011: The 21-year-old Clendening has 50 points this season, surpassing last season’s total by four points. He has eight goals, 42 assists and a plus-eight rating in 64 games this season.

Pierre-Marc Bouchard, forward, Rockford IceHogs (AHL), acquired via trade in 2014: The 29-year-old Bouchard has one goal and five assists in seven games in March. He has two goals, 13 assists and a minus-two rating in 15 games since joining the IceHogs.

Brad Mills, forward, Rockford IceHogs (AHL), signed as a free agent in 2013: The 30-year-old Mills has scored in two of the last three games. He has six goals, three assists and a minus-two rating in 18 games this season.

Jason LaBarbera, goaltender, Rockford IceHogs (AHL), acquired via trade in 2013: The 34-year-old LaBarbera is 2-2-1 with a 3.26 goals-against average and .901 save percentage in March. He’s 13-8-2 with a 2.77 goals-against average and .912 save percentage for the IceHogs this season.

Maxim Shalunov, forward, Toledo Walleye (ECHL), drafted fourth round in 2011: The 21-year-old Shalunov has recorded assists in his last four games. He has 12 goals, 14 assists and a minus-15 rating in 34 games with Toledo this season.

Travis Brown, defenseman, Victoria Royals (WHL), drafted fifth round in 2012: Brown scored the game-winning goal in the Royals’ 2-1 win over the Spokane Chiefs in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series on Monday and had an assist in their 4-3 win on Tuesday. He finished the regular season with 14 goals, 39 assists and a minus-12 rating in 71 games. He turned 20 years old on March 15.

Brandon Whitney, goaltender, Victoriaville Tigres (QJMHL), drafted seventh round in 2012: The 19-year-old Whitney finished the regular season with a 13-25-0 record, 3.25 goals-against average and .906 save percentage. He played in six regular-season games after returning from a serious throat injury.

Ryan Hartman, forward, Plymouth Whalers (OHL), drafted first round in 2013: The 19-year-old Hartman has had two assists, a minus-three rating and four penalty minutes through three playoff games against Guelph. He finished the regular season with 28 goals, 25 assists and a minus-14 rating in 52 games.

Carl Dahlstrom, defenseman, Linkopings (Sweden), drafted second round in 2013: The 19-year-old Dahlstrom scored a goal and had a plus-three rating in Linkopings’ 5-3 win over Frolunda HC in a playoff game on Tuesday. He has one goal and three assists in 13 games this season.
