2013-14 cap hit: $2,200,000 | Age: 28| Season stats: 10 goals, 19 assists, plus-9

Season recap: The Blackhawks picked up Versteeg from the Florida Panthers in November as their major in-season move, but the trade didn't meet expectations. After an inconsistent regular season, Versteeg's struggles were more evident in the playoffs and his role was reduced. He has said he came back too soon from a knee injury he suffered last season.

Season highlight: For much of December Versteeg looked like the player the Blackhawks thought they were getting. He had five goals and six assists in 14 games in the month.

Season lowlight: Versteeg will want to forget the playoffs. He was made a healthy scratch in three games and played less nine minutes in five others.

Final grade: C-.

Inside the numbers: Versteeg had a Corsi percentage of less than 50 percent in nine of 15 playoff games.

Notes: Versteeg is the only player to score at Wrigley Field and Soldier Field.

Quotes: "We're looking for more," Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said of Versteeg after the season. "I think Steeger knows and [I] would expect him to be at a different level next year. I think this summer of being able to train and put a real concentrated effort to get up to the speed that we want him at, as far as his conditioning level and his pace, where we want him to play his game at, is what we're looking for. And that will be the challenge for him this summer. But certainly we expect more going forward."

What's next: Versteeg has two years remaining on his contract with the Panthers paying half. The Blackhawks hope Versteeg can strengthen his knee and return in better form next season.
