PHILADELPHIA -- The Chicago Blackhawks selected center Nick Schmaltz with the No. 20 overall pick of the 2014 NHL draft on Friday.

The Blackhawks moved up in the draft to acquire Schmaltz. The Blackhawks traded their Nos. 27 and 62 picks in this year’s draft to the San Jose Sharks for their Nos. 20 and 179 picks.

The 18-year-old Schmaltz, who is from Wisconsin, is a former player in the Chicago Mission system and played last season for the Green Bay Gamblers in the United States Hockey League, compiling 18 goals and 45 assists in 55 games. He’ll play at the University of North Dakota next season.
