CHICAGO -- The Buffalo Sabres lead the Chicago Blackhawks 2-1 after the first period at the United Center.
All three goals were scored in a 42-second span early in the game as a Hawks 1-0 lead was short lived. After Patrick Kane found Patrick Sharp for his third goal in two games, the Sabres responded with two goals in 15 seconds.
Later in the period it looked like the Hawks had tied the game after Duncan Keith put one in from the point but the referees waved it off claiming Tomas Kopecky had made contact with Sabres goalie Patrick Lalime. Replays showed Kopecky getting shoved into Lalime by defenseman Steve Montador and then Montador getting tangled up with Lalime as the puck went in.
The Hawks played a lot of the period in their own end giving up 19 shots while putting nine on Lalime. The Hawks scored on their first shot, but that didn’t come until 6:25 had elapsed in the game.
