Second-period wrap: Hawks 3, Kings 1

By Jesse Rogers

The Chicago Blackhawks led the Los Angeles Kings, 3-1, after two periods at the United Center on Sunday.

The Kings tied the game 90 seconds into the period, but the Hawks quickly responded 0:25 later to re-take the lead, 2-1, and then added another goal later for their first two-goal lead of the game.

On the Kings’ goal, Brian Campbell and Niklas Hjalmarsson both made a move to cover Michael Handzus, who was able to drop the puck off to Kyle Clifford. Clifford got the puck around Corey Crawford to put the Kings on the board at 1:34.

The Blackhawks got that one back when Duncan Keith slammed the puck home from the point with Troy Brouwer providing his second screen of the night on a Hawks’ goal.

Later in the period, an odd-man rush by the Hawks looked to be dead when Dave Bolland’s pass missed Bryan Bickell. But it landed right on a trailing Fernando Pisani’s stick and he scored his fifth of the year.
