First period recap: Hawks 2, Avs 0

By Jesse Rogers

The Chicago Blackhawks lead the Colorado Avalanche 2-0 after the first period at the United Center.

The Hawks jumped on the Avalanche after killing off an early interference penalty by Viktor Stalberg. First, Duncan Keith put a laser shot on goalie Peter Budaj who left a juicy rebound for Troy Brouwer to hammer home. A few minutes later a bad bounce off the end boards landed on Fernando Pisani’s stick in front of the Colorado net. His shot was deflected to the other side where Dave Bolland had an easy open look for the score.>/p>

The Hawks killed off another penalty later in the period showing some life to their much maligned penalty killing units.

Corey Crawford had some in-tight saves, stopping all nine shots he saw. The Hawks had seven shots on net.
