GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The Chicago Blackhawks lead the Phoenix Coyotes 1-0 after the first period at Jobing.com arena.
The Hawks pounded Coyotes’ goaltender Jason LaBarbera to the tune of 15 shots, many of which were blasts from the point. One of them, by Marian Hossa, got past LaBarbera during a 5-on-3 Hawks’ power play.
Hossa wasn’t sure to play until game time and was on the left point when he tallied with assists from Patrick Sharp and Duncan Keith.
On the other end of the ice, the Hawks gave up just four shots on net. There were a couple good scoring chances by the Coyotes but each was thwarted including one which Dan Carcillo hooked a player as he was moving towards the slot but the Hawks killed off the Phoenix power play.
