Power Rankings: How did Hawks fall?
By Jesse Rogers
CHICAGO -- The Chicago Blackhawks wouldn't be wrong to scratch their heads over ESPN.com's latest Power Rankings, which has them at No. 8. That's two spots lower than a week ago.
After a 2-0-1 week, they probably should have jumped into the top 5 but now are closer to dropping out of the top 10. Two rivals, Vancouver (No. 6) and St. Louis (No. 7) passed the Hawks with a good seven days of their own but it wasn't that long ago (Dec. 3) Chicago took down the Blues in St. Louis in pretty convincing fashion.
And the Canucks are just starting to find their stride, so it's surprising they would get such a lofty standing.
Not that the Hawks have been perfect or anything -- they've gone to overtime in three of their last four games -- but earlier bad losses are becoming more of distant memory. Minnesota, Philadelphia, Detroit, New York Rangers and Boston arguably have a case to be in the Top 5, and ahead of the Hawks, but Chicago shouldn't be behind anyone else.
