1st-period wrap: Kings 1, Blackhawks 0

By Jesse Rogers

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Blackhawks trailed the Los Angeles Kings 1-0 after the first period at the United Center on Sunday.

The Kings came out on fire, registering 14 shots in the opening eight minutes of the game. They scored on a rare 4-on-1 break after the Hawks failed to convert on the other end. A scramble in front of Kings goalie Jonathan Quick produced several good chances with the goalie down and out, but Dave Bolland, among others, could not convert. On the ensuing sequence, Duncan Keith made a bad decision in the offensive zone, making blind pass that was picked off, which led to the very odd-man break. Slava Voynov finished on the pass from Justin Williams as Williams had three options to choose from.

The Kings slowed down some in the second half of the opening period, but still finished with 17 shots on net. The Hawks had 11. Chicago hasn’t scored on Los Angeles and Quick in 163:22 of hockey time.
