Kane honored by league after 5-goal week

By Scott Powers

Chicago Blackhawks right wing Patrick Kane was named the NHL’s First Star in its “Three Stars” of the week on Monday.

Kane led all players last week with five goals. He scored twice, including the game-winner, in a 5-3 win over the San Jose Sharks on Feb. 5. He had two more goals and an assist in a 6-2 win over the Phoenix Coyotes on Feb. 7. He also scored once in Sunday’s 3-0 win over the Nashville Predators.

Kane is second in the league with 19 points, second with nine goals and 10th with 10 assists. This is the best start Kane has had to a season in his career.

Dallas Stars left wing Jamie Benn was given the Second Star after recording six points, including two game-winning goals, last week. New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur received the Third Star for going 3-0-0 with a 1.33 goals-again average and .942 save percentage last week.
