Ray Emery starting in goal vs. Oilers

By Scott Powers

CHICAGO -- Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Ray Emery will start against the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday, Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said.

The Blackhawks are coming off their first regulation loss of the season on Friday. Goaltender Corey Crawford allowed five goals on 24 shots and was pulled after the second period of the 6-2 loss to the Colorado Avalanche. Emery allowed one goal on 12 shots in the third period.

“I think both guys had good consideration in playing tonight,” Quenneville said prior to Sunday’s game at the United Center. “I think (Friday is) all part of it. I thought Ray came in and did a nice job as well later in that game. I’ve very comfortable with anybody who is in the net. (I’m) giving Ray a chance.”

Emery is 10-0-0 with a 2.05 goals-against average and .924 save percentage this season. He replaced an injured Crawford for four consecutive games in February and was 4-0-0 and made 107 saves on 114 shots during the span.

Crawford is 11-1-3 with a 1.81 goals-against average and .930 save percentage this season.

“Both goalies have been very good,” Quenneville said. “I think that’s a good argument for either guy playing. Ray has played well against these guys the other day. But the consistency of our goaltending has been very important of where we are today.”
