Handzus misses practice but will play G1

By Scott Powers

CHICAGO -- Blackhawks forward Michal Handzus missed his second consecutive practice on Tuesday, but he will play in Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinal series against the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday, according to Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville.

Quenneville said following Tuesday's practice at the United Center that Handzus is "fine" and will play in Game 1. Quenneville described Handzus as having a "maintenance day" when he missed Monday's practice.

Handzus had two assists and a plus-2 rating in five games against the Minnesota Wild during their Western Conference quarterfinal series. He had one goal, five assists and a plus-7 rating in 11 regular season games with the Blackhawks after being acquired from the San Jose Sharks at the trade deadline.

Handzus was replaced by Ben Smith on the second line during Tuesday's practice. The team's complete lines Tuesday were Marian Hossa-Jonathan Toews-Brandon Saad, Patrick Kane-Smith-Patrick Sharp, Bryan Bickell-Dave Bolland-Andrew Shaw and Michael Frolik-Marcus Kruger-Daniel Carcillo.
