Rapid Reaction: Blackhawks 4, Jets 1

CHICAGO -- Here’s a quick look at the Chicago Blackhawks’ 4-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets at the United Center on Wednesday.

How it happened: The Blackhawks took it to the Jets for the second time in five days, coming on the heels of their 5-1 win on Saturday. Jonathan Toews, a Winnipeg native, failed to score during his homecoming on Saturday, but he got on the board against the Jets on Wednesday. He put home a pass from Patrick Sharp to give the Blackhawks a 1-0 advantage. Patrick Kane added to the lead when he patiently waited for an opening and scored from the left circle with 5.8 seconds remaining in the first period. In the second period, Ben Smith caused the Jets to turn the puck over, then found Brandon Pirri for a breakaway goal to give the Blackhawks a 3-0 lead. Patrick Sharp scored the fourth goal for the Blackhawks in the third period. Devin Setoguchi scored for the Jets in the third period. Corey Crawford started his third consecutive game and made 24 saves in the win.

What it means: The Blackhawks improved to 4-0-1 in their past five games. They scored 22 goals during that span. The Blackhawks improved to 10-2-4 on the season. Kane leads the Blackhawks with nine goals and has scored five goals in the last seven games. Toews is second on the team with eight goals. Kane and Toews tied for the team lead in goals last season.

Player of the game: Sharp set up Toews for his goal and scored his own goal later in the game. It was his third multipoint game of the season. He has 11 points on the season. He also had a blocked shot and takeaway in the game.

Stat of the game: The Blackhawks’ top line -- Marian Hossa, Toews and Sharp -- took 13 of the Blackhawks’ 28 shots on goal.

What’s next: The Blackhawks will have another of set of back-to-back games on Saturday and Sunday. They travel to play the Dallas Stars on Saturday and host the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday.
