How it happened:Andrew Shaw scored one of the bigger highlight goals of the season for the Blackhawks to get them going against the Stars. Off a rebound and with his back to the net, Shaw was falling to his knees when he reached for the puck with his stick and blindly wrapped it around Stars goaltender Kari Lehtonen for a power-play goal with 18 seconds remaining the first period. It was the game’s first goal. Kris Versteeg and Duncan Keith added goals for the Blackhawks in the second period. Ryan Garbutt scored the Stars’ two goals. He cut Chicago's lead to 3-2 with 5:40 remaining in the third period. Marian Hossa then scored an empty-net goal with 33.3 seconds remaining in the game. Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford made 25 saves, and Lehtonen made 38 saves. Blackhawks forward Teuvo Teravainen made his NHL debut.
Player of the game: Shaw added an assist to his goal. He has a career-high 36 points this season.
