Weeks out as Hawks goaltending coach

By Scott Powers

PHILADELPHIA -- Steve Weeks is no longer the Chicago Blackhawks' goaltending coach, head coach Joel Quenneville confirmed Friday.

Weeks was hired by the Blackhawks on Aug. 12 and spent one season with the organization. He replaced Stephane Waite, who left the Blackhawks after 10 seasons to join the Montreal Canadiens.

Quenneville said it was his decision for Weeks not to return for another season.

“It’s tough to break it down exactly the change, but it was something we wanted to do,” Quenneville said at the NHL draft. “It is a tough situation, but we’re looking to make a change there.”

Quenneville said he didn’t have a timeline on hiring Weeks' replacement.

“If we can fill it sooner than later, that’s what we’ll look to do,” Quenneville said.

The Blackhawks will return their top two goaltenders Corey Crawford and Antti Raanta next season.
