DEERFIELD, Ill. -- Two days after he injured his right hamstring, Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose was held out of practice Wednesday, with his status still up in the air for Friday's game at Toronto.

"He's doing a little better," coach Tom Thibodeau said. "We held him out so he didn't practice, but he did rehab work so we'll see where he is (Thursday)."

Rose has not undergone an MRI for the injury, which happened late in Monday night's victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers when he drove to the basket for a layup. Rose said after Monday's game the injury happened as the play was ending.

The Bulls are sticking to their original assessment that the injury is considered minor.

"We're just going to see where he is," Thibodeau said. "If he can play, he'll play. If he can't, he'll sit. We're taking it day by day."

The Bulls have their first set of back-to-back games this weekend. After Friday's game against the Raptors, they return home for a game Saturday night against the undefeated Indiana Pacers. Thibodeau did not speculate, when asked, if the Bulls might hold Rose out of Friday's game and have him play Saturday instead.

Rose did not speak to reporters at the team's practice facility Wednesday. A team representative said the former MVP, who missed all of last season following knee surgery, was getting treatment immediately after the team went through its workout.

The point guard has been struggling in his return to the court. He has averaged 4.5 assists through the first six contests, which is tied with forward Luol Deng. He has also averaged 4.2 turnovers per game, up from his career mark of 3.0 per contest.

Rose is also shooting just 33 percent from the field and 25 percent from 3-point range.
