Rose continues to make progress

By Nick Friedell

CHICAGO -- Derrick Rose spent close to an hour taking shots before Monday night's game against the Charlotte Bobcats and appears to be getting closer to participating fully in practices.

"He's coming along," Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau said before the game. "He still has a ways to go."

When asked specifically if there was anything Rose wasn't medically cleared to do at this point, Thibodeau responded coyly.

"He's doing fine." the veteran coach said.

Thibodeau does not believe it will take that long for Rose to get back into a rhythm with his teammates on the practice floor.

"He's already done a lot in terms of working into practice so that's not going to be an issue." Thibodeau said. "We've got a good group of guys. We bring a lot of guys in early to go through stuff. Some first-team guys, some second-team guys, they play different positions so it adds a lot of versatility to our team."

With the Bulls having a stretch of six straight road games over the next two weeks, Thibodeau was asked whether it would be tough to have five-on-five scrimmages this week.

"At this time of the season you're doing things more in the half-court," he said. "But you also have the opportunity to do things before practice with guys who need work also, so in some ways it's good. Obviously, the guys that are playing heavy minutes you're not going to do as much with them and you tend to stay with more non-contact stuff but some guys need the work. So it's good for those guys and it's good for Derrick."
