CSN suspends Gill for remainder of season

By Staff

Comcast SportsNet Chicago has suspended Kendall Gill for the remainder of the Chicago Bulls season after the studio analyst reportedly got in an altercation with Big Ten Network basketball analyst Tim Doyle in the CSN newsroom.

"We have made a decision to not have Kendall Gill appear on our air for the remainder of the Bulls season," CSN Chicago news director Kevin Cross said in a statement. "We will re-evaluate our current position on this matter during the off-season.”

According to Crain's Chicago Business blogger Danny Ecker, who reported that he witnessed the altercation, Gill confronted Doyle on Tuesday after a CSN panel show that included Doyle and Ecker. Doyle had criticized Gill's analysis of a basket interference call against Joakim Noah that cost the Bulls a victory against the Denver Nuggets the night before.

Ecker said the argument escalated into a shoving match and Gill ultimately threw a punch. Ecker reported that blood was drawn, although the cause wasn't clear.

Gill, who initially was taken off the air pending the investigation, declined comment to ESPN Chicago on Friday afternoon.

Gill was a star for Illinois and a 15-year NBA veteran who dabbled in pro boxing after his playing days. He was 4-0 with three knockouts.

Doyle is a former Northwestern basketball player.
