Hinrich, Butler practice while Deng rehabs

By Scott Powers

DEERFIELD, Ill. -- Chicago Bulls guards Kirk Hinrich and Jimmy Butler practiced Tuesday and could play against the Brooklyn Nets on Christmas Day.

“They felt good today,” coach Tom Thibodeau said after practice at the Berto Center on Tuesday. “We’ll see where they are tomorrow.”

Bulls forward Luol Deng, however, was unable to practice, but Thibodeau said Deng rehabbed and did some shooting. Deng has missed the last two games with an Achilles injury.

Hinrich has sat out the team’s last five games with back stiffness. Butler sprained his right ankle against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday and sat out Saturday’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Butler said Tuesday he thought he could play Wednesday. Butler previously missed time this season because of a turf toe on his right foot.

“I feel good,” Butler said. “Some progress, but I think I’m getting better. I think I’m well enough to go out there and compete.”

“I think I just need a new right foot, to tell you the truth. I think this one is all used up. I’m all right. Turf toe, a little ankle problem, nothing I can’t handle I guess.”

Butler anticipated his turf toe injury to be a constant issue throughout his career.

“It’s all right,” Butler said. “It bothers me a little bit, but I feel like it’s going to bother me the rest of my career now.”
