There’s no doubt that the Chicago area produces a whole lot of basketball talent. But it’s not until you go through nearly every single Division I team in the country before you realize just how much talent there really is.

To figure out that amount precisely, I decided to comb through the 88 Division I games over the past two days. Below are the Chicago-area players who had significant statistical performances. Of course, there were many area players who didn’t play over the two nights -- most notably Illinois didn’t have a game -- and there were players who had off nights -- such as Northwestern freshman Drew Crawford (Naperville Central) and Georgia Tech sophomore Iman Shumpert (Oak Park).

But it's still an impressive list.

  • Ohio State junior Evan Turner (St. Joseph) scored 29 points, grabbed seven rebounds, dished out five assists and had two steals in a loss to Purdue on Wednesday.
  • Duke senior Jon Scheyer (Glenbrook North) had 15 points, six assists and five steals in a win over Miami.
  • Kansas State junior Jacob Pullen (Proviso East) had 18 points, six assists and two steals, which included a clutch one in the final seconds, in a narrow win over Nebraska.
  • Ohio freshman D.J. Cooper (Seton) had 23 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and one steal in a loss to Kent State.
  • Kent State senior Chris Singletary (Farragut) had 17 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and two blocks to beat Ohio.
