Class of 2011 center John Cannon will announce his commitment to Georgia over Northwestern today at a press conference, according to a source.
Cannon, a 6-10, 240-pound center, chose Georgia over a scholarship offer from Northwestern and a preferred walk-on spot at North Carolina.
“For Georgia, my pros would be I really like the coaches,” said Cannon earlier in the week. “I have a lot of respect for coach [Mark] Fox. I got to know the coaches a little while I as there. I really like the campus down there, a lot of nice facilities. I couldn’t really think of any negatives that would even matter to me.”
As for Northwestern, Cannon had one negative.
“The pros of Northwestern were I really liked the coaches and players,” said Cannon earlier in the week. “It’s a nice place up there. It’s really nice up on the lake. It’s outside of the city, so you’re not in the middle of everything. They’re in the Big Ten conference, big competition. The only real negative there was it’s so far away from home.”
Cannon averaged 21.9 points, 12.3 rebounds and 6.5 rebounds his senior season at Mountain Heritage High School. He is the 47th ranked center in the Class of 2011 by ESPN recruiting.
