Persa's Heisman odds for 2012 are set
Bodog.com set Northwestern senior quarterback Dan Persa’s odds of winning the 2011 Heisman Trophy at 95/1 on Tuesday.
Persa came in as the biggest dark horse of the 38 players given a shot by the gambling website to win next season’s award.
Persa was a first-team All-Big Ten selection by the conference’s coaches last season after completing 222-of-302 passes for 2,581 yards, 15 touchdowns and four interceptions. He missed the Wildcats’ final three games after he ruptured his Achilles’ tendon in his right foot against Iowa on the game’s final play.
Northwestern senior associate athletic director for external affairs Mike Polisky recently said the school did plan to promote Persa’s Heisman campaign, but wouldn’t disclose any details.
Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck was the leading candidate at 9/2 on Bodog.com. He was followed by Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones (13/2), South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore (7/1), Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson (15/2) and Oregon running back LaMichael James (15/2).
Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd (40-1) and quarterback Dayne Crist (75-1) also made the list.
