North Chicago senior guard Aaron Simpson committed to Illinois State on Wednesday. A 6-foot combo guard, Simpson chose the Redbirds over Northern Illinois, Wisconsin-Green Bay, among others.

Simpson averaged 22.5 points last season while helping the Warhawks to a fourth-place finish in Class 3A. He has played for former Chicago Bulls forward Dickey Simpkins’ club program Team NLP.

“Illinois State gets a very talented scorer and a player who has an excellent feel for the game,” Simpkins said. “He has almost an Allen Iverson-type of ability and body structure. He’s been in our program the longest. He’s been loyal and dedicated to the NLP program. We’ve watched him grow as a player and young man over the years. It’s been a pleasure to see him develop.”

Illinois State does not have any scholarships for next season. The Redbirds’ roster includes no seniors.

Illinois State now has two Class of 2012 commitments. Normal Community point guard Anthony Beane, who is the son of Illinois State assistant coach Anthony Beans, committed to the Redbirds last week.
