Class of 2012 safety Traveon Henry committed to Northwestern on Wednesday.

The 6-1, 205-pound Henry, who is from Pine Crest High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., chose the Wildcats over Duke, Florida State and Georgia Tech.

“It’s pretty much the total package,” said Henry, who also plays running back in high school. “I thought that from the get-go from coach [Pat Fitzgerald.] He wants us to grow up to be young men. I’ll prepared for life. I also wanted to play Big Ten football.”

Henry thought he could be a difference-maker for the Wildcats as a safety.

“I feel I can react well,” Henry said. “I’m a pretty physical guy. I’m able to play in space. Not a lot of guys can play in space. I can play the ball well. I go get it. I bring all those things.”

ESPN Southeast recruiting analyst Corey Long also believed in Henry’s potential at Northwestern.

“Personally, I think it's a great pickup for Northwestern,. and he's a player with a lot of good football ahead of him,” Long said. “He's a young man that values academics and wants to get into the business and financial world after he's done playing, so I expect he'll want to take advantage of everything Northwestern has to offer on and off the field.”

Northwestern now has 17 Class of 2012 commitments.
