Colter, Monheim earn Big Ten honors

Northwestern junior quarterback/wide receiver Kain Colter and Illinois freshman linebacker Mason Monheim received Big Ten player of the week awards on Monday.

Colter was named the co-offensive player of the week after accumulating 297 yards of total offense and four touchdowns in the Wildcats’ win over Indiana on Saturday. Colter rushed for 164 yards and four touchdowns on 14 carries and caught nine passes for 131 yards.

It was Colter’s second offensive player of the week award. He also received the honor on Nov. 7, 2011.

Monheim was named the freshman of the week after recording a game-high 11 tackles, including four solo tackles, in the Illini’s loss to Penn State on Saturday. He also forced his second fumble of the season.
