Illinois freshman linebacker Mason Monheim was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the second time this season on Monday.

Monheim recorded a game- and career-high 15 tackles in Saturday's 17-3 loss to Minnesota. His previous career high was 11 tackles. He also had 1.5 tackles for a loss and 0.5 sacks against the Golden Gophers.

Monheim has started the past eight games for Illinois and has a team-high 74 tackles, which leads all Big Ten freshmen. During Big Ten play, he is averaging 9.5 tackles per game, which is sixth-best in the conference.

Monheim was also named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Oct. 1 after recording 11 tackles and one forced fumble against Penn State.
