Loyola junior guard Cully Payne will not return for his senior season, and Payne’s younger brother Quinten Payne, a high school senior guard, has asked and been granted a release from his letter of intent, the school announced on Friday.
“Cully has indicated to me that he will not return for his senior season and subsequently, Quinten has asked for a release from his NLI,” Loyola coach Porter Moser said in a statement on Friday. “We wish Cully and Quinten nothing but the best in their future endeavors.”
Cully Payne transferred to Loyola prior to the 2011-12 season after spending his first two years at Iowa. He sat out last season and averaged 7.9 points, 1.9 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.0 steals for the Ramblers this season.
Quinten Payne, who attends St. Charles North in St. Charles, Ill., committed to Loyola in August of 2011 and signed with the Ramblers in November. He averaged 19 points and four rebounds for St. Charles North this season.
Loyola was 15-16 overall and 5-11 in the Horizon League this season.
