Northwestern senior guard Michael Thompson needed a little time to adjust to Italy.

After struggling in the Wildcats’ first game overseas, Thompson went off for 22 points, five assists, three rebounds and one steal to help Northwestern to an 89-74 win over Liomatic Perugia in Italy on Wednesday. Northwester improved to 2-0 on the trip.

Wildcats junior forward John Shurna continued to shine against the Italian competition. He had a team-high 27 points on 9-of-11 shooting and added nine rebounds. He also connected on 7-of-7 3-pointers.

Freshman JerShon Cobb (four points, seven rebounds) and sophomore Drew Crawford (11 points, five rebounds, three assists) contributed in the win.

Northwestern took a 25-13 lead after one quarter and never looked back.

The Wildcats next play Fastweb Casale Monferrato on Saturday.
