Anderson (Ky.) senior long snapper Chris Fitzpatrick committed to Northwestern on Saturday.
Fitzpatrick, who is 6-1 and 235 pounds, was offered a scholarship Saturday by Wildcats coach Pat Fitzgerald and committed on the spot. Fitzpatrick was on Northwestern’s campus earlier this week.
Fitzpatrick also considered preferred walk-on spots at Boston College, Kentucky and Western Kentucky.
“I was hoping I would get it,” Fitzpatrick said of Northwestern’s offer. “It’s awesome. All the coaches are great. The academics are really good, and the football program is great, too.”
National long snapping instructor Chris Rubio thought Northwestern was getting a good one.
“He is a very solid athlete that moves well and has a thick body,” Rubio said. “He creates a great amount of speed by utilizing his whole body when he snaps. He’s a hard worker that is always smiling. He wants to continually improve and doesn’t rest on his laurels.”
Northwestern has 12 Class of 2012 commitments.
