Rapid Reaction: Northwestern 42, Michigan 24

By Nick Friedell

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Let's take a quick look at how the Michigan Wolverines knocked off the Northwestern Wildcats 42-24 on Saturday night at Ryan Field.

How it happened: Northwestern took a 24-14 lead into halftime and then seemingly fell asleep. Or Michigan woke up. Either way, the 'Cats failed to do anything well in the final 30 minutes, dropping their third straight game. Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson finished with 442 yards total offense and four touchdowns and dominated the Northwestern defense in the second half. Dan Persa threw for 195 yards in the first half, but couldn't get anything going after that.

What it means: Pat Fitzgerald is going to have nightmares about the way this one ended. His team simply couldn't stop Robinson in the second half and struggled to find any consistency on the offensive end. After blowing last week's game against Illinois, some figured the 'Cats were ready to upset Michigan and get their season back on track. Unfortunately for Fitzgerald, his team wasn't up to the challenge of closing this one out and got manhandled late.

Stat of the night: Michigan had 529 yards of total offense.

What's next: Northwestern faces off against Iowa next Saturday in Iowa City.
