Surgery to end season for NU's Demps
By Scott Powers
Northwestern freshman guard Tre Demps underwent surgery on his left shoulder Tuesday and will miss the remainder of the season, the school has announced.
Demps will seek a medical redshirt season. He has played in four games and averaged 2.3 points, 1.3 assists and 1.3 rebounds.
"The injury really limited Tre and it was in his best interest to get it taken care of at this time," Northwestern coach Bill Carmody said in a statement. "By getting the surgery done now, it should allow him to return to full strength by late spring."
Demps tore a ligament in his left shoulder during a pickup game in August and decided against surgery then after conferring with multiple doctors.
Demps, a 6-3 combo guard, was Northwestern's most highly ranked recruit in its 2011 class. He averaged 16.5 points, 4.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds during his senior year at Ronald Regan High School in Texas.
