Shamrock Series unis unveiled
By Matt Fortuna
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Unleash the emotions.
Notre Dame's uniforms for its Oct. 6 "Shamrock Series" contest in Chicago were revealed after Thursday's media day, and they will feature a two-colored helmet.
Tyler Eifert models the uniform Notre Dame will wear when it plays Miami on Oct. 6.
Sparkling gold -- similar to what Notre Dame's helmets bore last season against Maryland -- takes up a little more than half of the Irish's helmets. Dark blue takes up the other side, which features the leprechaun logo in white.
"Because the game is now part of something that is going to last and has its own identification as the Shamrock Series, we've decided in a very conscience way to take this and use it as the one time each year that we modify our uniforms," athletic director Jack Swarbrick said. "Again to make it a special and different event, to embrace the notion that we're gonna bring an exciting and new opportunity to us when we come to a city, and part of that is the uniform."
The Irish will face Miami at Soldier Field as part of this year's event. Previous contests were against Army in 2010 at Yankee Stadium and against Maryland last season at FedEx Field.
Swarbrick said he has host sites down for future Shamrock Series games through 2016, but he is still trying to nail down some opponents.
