Te'o honored, Irish shoot up rankings
By Matt Fortuna
Manti Te'o's 12-tackle effort in Saturday night's win at No. 10 Michigan State earned him Walter Camp national defensive player of the week honors Sunday, capping an emotion-filled week for the senior linebacker.
Te'o broke up two passes, recovered a fumble and had a tackle for loss, helping Notre Dame hold Le'Veon Bell to 77 yards rushing.
Stanford running back Stepfan Taylor won the offensive award for the week.
Notre Dame's upset win also shot the school up the rankings, as the Irish leaped from No. 20 to No. 11 in this week's Associated Press poll and from No. 19 to No. 15 in the USA Today coaches' poll.
The Spartans dropped from No. 10 in each poll to Nos. 21 and 20 in the AP and coaches' poll, respectively. Future Irish opponent Stanford is now Nos. 9 and 11 in each poll, while rival USC fell to Nos. 13 and 12 following its loss to the Cardinal.
