Cubs go right to reverse their wrongs

The Chicago Cubs might have altered their lineup at the beginning of this weekend at Pittsburgh, but it still leans to the right when the occasion calls.

Against Pirates left-hander Erik Bedard on Sunday, Cubs manager Dale Sveum combined his new look (Starlin Castro in the No. 2 hole) with his old look (right-handed hitters against left-handed pitching).

All but leadoff man David DeJesus bat from the right side. The right-handed look is one the Cubs have tried often but with little success as they have the least amount of runs scored against left-handers in the National League (23).

The Cubs’ 312 at-bats against lefties are the lowest in the National League, though, but they have the 13th worst batting average against left-handers at .228.

The Cubs are in the midst of an 11-game losing streak, their longest in 15 years. It is the 10th time in franchise history a losing streak has reached 11 games and the club’s 15th double-digit losing streak ever.

It’s the longest losing streak since the Cubs dropped the first 14 games of the 1997 season. That is also the longest losing streak in franchise history.

The Cubs’ complete lineup against the Pirates on Sunday:

DeJesus, RF
Castro, SS
Joe Mather, 3B
Alfonso Soriano, LF
Jeff Baker, 1B
Reed Johnson, CF
Darwin Barney, 2B
Koyie Hill, C
Matt Garza, P
