CHICAGO – The Cubs made some history of the wrong kind on Wednesday.

The 17-1 defeat to the New York Mets was just the 26th time since 1900 the Cubs have lost a game by at least 15 runs.

It was the Cubs’ worst defeat since an 18-1 loss against the Milwaukee Brewers on Aug. 2, 2010. That 2010 team finished 12 games under .500 at 75-87. The current club fell to 23 under .500 at 26-49.

The largest margin of defeat since 1900 was a 22-0 thumping at the hands of the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sept. 16, 1975.
