Cubs fans are feeling the pain of the rebuilding process. The Cubs' 26-49 record is tied for the 3rd-worst 75-game start in team history.

You'd have to go back to the strike-shortened season of 1981 to find a Cubs team that was this bad through 75 games. Jim Riggleman's 1997 Cubs started 0-14, but they would still be three games up on this team. The 2011 Cubs would own a five-game lead.

The Leo Durocher-led 1966 Cubs own the worst 75-game start in team history, going just 23-52 and finishing the season at 59-103.

The Cubs won just eight games in June and had a 12-game losing streak in May. But fans have been buoyed by the promotion of first baseman Anthony Rizzo, the signing of Cuban prospect Jorge Soler and the possibility of upcoming deals before the July 31st trade deadline. Plus, ESPN Chicago's Bruce Levine said in a recent chat that he expects 2012 top draft pick Albert Almora to sign with the Cubs on July 12 at midnight.

Matt Garza, Ryan Dempster, Geovany Soto, Darwin Barney and Carlos Marmol could be ex-Cubs by the end of July if Theo Epstein and GM Jed Hoyer can find suitors, as well as the compensation they want in return.

The record is almost historically bad, but Cubs fans have never been so upbeat about a last-place team before.
