ATLANTA -- With three more draft picks under contract, the Chicago Cubs have come to terms with 18 of their top 20 selections.
The only two they haven’t signed? Their first- and second-round picks.
First-round pick Albert Almora (sixth overall) remains unsigned along with second-round pick Duane Underwood (67th overall), who was a guest of the Cubs this past weekend at Wrigley Field.
The Cubs were confident they would be able to make a deal with Almora before they even drafted him and all indications are that something will be agreed upon with the high-school outfielder from Florida before the July 13 deadline.
The Cubs made 42 selections on draft day last month and 27 of them have signed.
The Cubs have signed 18 of their top 20 picks, but Almora is not one.
