Cubs' Rizzo manages to avoid labels

ATLANTA – There have been plenty of attempts of late to pin some sort of nickname on Anthony Rizzo, to which the power-hitting young phenom says “good luck.”

Replacing “Riz” with any phrase that contains “Wiz” has been popular. And don’t even start with something like “The Rizzinator.”

While growing up, Rizzo claims he didn’t have a clever nickname.

The only nicknames from his youth that Rizzo will admit to are “Ant” and “Tony,” which are obvious references to his first game. And there is the ever present “Rizz.”

Baseball players refuse to call each other by their birth names so at some point somebody will tag him with something. Until then, Rizzo will remain Rizzo until somebody is struck by inspiration.
