Now that first-round draft pick Albert Almora is signed and on his way to Mesa, Ariz., to begin working out, where is he expected to play for the remainder of the summer?

The Cubs do have a Rookie League club at Mesa and a short-season Single-A team at Boise, Idaho. Yet because of his talent level, the Single-A teams at Peoria and Daytona figure to be in the mix.

The logical landing spot for the Florida native could be Daytona. Almora went to high school in the Miami area, and staying in Florida, albeit a four-hour drive away, could help with his transition.

If he ends up at Peoria, the Chiefs could be awash in highly regarded Cubs prospects if Almora, Jorge Soler and 2011 top pick Javier Baez are playing together. Soler has not yet been assigned to a club.

Soler, 20, figures to be on a faster track to the major leagues and could be pushing for playing time with the Cubs as soon as two years from now. Almora, 18, and Baez, 19, are expected to be on a slower progression, and each could be up to four years away from making a major league debut.
