PITTSBURGH -- Chicago Cubs first-round draft pick Albert Almora was set to make his pro debut Monday, four days after another highly-touted prospect, Jorge Soler, made his first game appearance.
Almora announced on his Twitter account that he will be getting into a game. “Pro debut today! I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time! #pumped,” he wrote.
Almora is expected to get started with the Cubs’ Arizona Rookie League team in Mesa. A strong showing there could earn the outfielder a promotion to Single-A Boise and possibly beyond.
Soler made his debut with Mesa on Thursday, going hitless in three at-bats. On Sunday, Soler went 2-for-4 for Mesa, with a home run.
Outfielder Albert Almora announced he will make his debut in the Cubs' system.
