CHICAGO -- One of the Chicago Cubs' top prospects has already delivered after his recent promotion to Single-A Peoria.
Jorge Soler hit a grand slam in his second game with the Chiefs on Saturday night, giving him three home runs total since starting play in the minor leagues. Soler’s previous two home runs came at Mesa of the Arizona Rookie League.
In the third inning Saturday at Beloit (Wis.), Soler crushed a two-out pitch for the grand slam. It was the difference in Peoria's 5-3 victory.
The 21-year-old outfielder, who signed a nine-year, $30 million deal with the Cubs at the end of June, is one of two high profile outfielders getting their start in the team’s system. First-round pick Albert Almora also began play at Mesa and could be close to a promotion as well.
