CINCINNATI -- The Chicago Cubs’ Alfonso Soriano started a long day with a nice round number.

Soriano’s two-run home run in the first inning Game 1 of Saturday’s day-night doubleheader against the Cincinnati Reds gave him 1,000 RBIs for his career.

The 36-year-old veteran of 14 major league seasons has 12 RBIs over his last 13 games to give him 73 total RBIs this season.

The home run, into the second deck at Great American Ball Park off Reds pitcher Johnny Cueto, was the 22nd of the season for Soriano. He did not hit one in his first 30 games this season, but now has his 22 home runs in 80 games since.
