A quick look at the Chicago Cubs' 13-9 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday at Wrigley Field.

How it happened: The Pirates and Cubs engaged in an epic back-and-forth battle. The Cubs jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead, then fell behind 6-1. The Cubs came back to make it 6-5, only to have Pedro Alvarez homer for the second time in the game -- both opposite field shots that sailed onto Waveland Ave. -- to put the Pirates up 9-5. The Cubs responded in the bottom half of the inning when Anthony Rizzo countered with his second home run of the game, this one a grand slam to put his team up 10-9. The Cubs tacked on three more in the eighth.

What it means: Rizzo had a career day, going 3-for-5 with a double and his first ever two-homer game while also driving in a career-high six runs. It was the first time a Cub drove in six since Aramis Ramirez did so on July 20, 2010 against the Houston Astros. Alfonso Soriano reached the 100 RBIs mark for the third time in his career and the first time with the Cubs. The previous two times he reached the mark were in 2002 (New York Yankees) and 2005 (Texas Rangers). With 101 RBIs on the season, Soriano needs four RBIs in the remaining 16 games to top his career high of 104 in a season.

Outside the box: While Darwin Barney extended his career-long hitting streak to 11 games, his sudden ability to draw walks (his career walk rate entering Sunday was 4.8%) may be more intriguing in the long run. A pair of walks on Sunday gave him back-to-back games with two walks, five in his last three games and seven on the month. His high month for walks is currently May with eight and he has 13 more games in September to try to pass that mark.

Up next: Lefty Travis Wood (6-11, 4.23 ERA) looks to continue his solid September as he takes on Kevin Correia (10-9, 4.29) and the Pirates at Wrigley Field on Monday night at 7:05 p.m.
