CHICAGO -- Chicago Cubs fans will get one more chance this season to celebrate the career of Kerry Wood.

The right-hander, who retired after making one last appearance in May against the Chicago White Sox, will be celebrated Sunday during Kerry Wood Appreciation Day at Wrigley Field.

An on-field pregame ceremony will take place just after 1 p.m. in advance of the 1:20 p.m. game against the St. Louis Cardinals. The first 20,000 fans in attendance will receive a poster of Wood.

Wood’s son Justin, who came on the field to give his dad a hug following his last outing on May 18, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch while the entire Wood family will sing “Take Me Out To the Ballgame” during the seventh-inning stretch.

The former fourth-overall pick in the 1995 draft, Wood is third on the Cubs’ all-time strikeout list with 1,470.
