TUCSON, Ariz. -- Chicago Cubs starter Scott Feldman allowed four runs over five innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday, striking out five and not giving up a walk.

Feldman, who is scheduled to pitch the fourth game of the regular season on April 6 in Atlanta, was looking for a bit more consistency with an 0-2 record and a gaudy 11.81 ERA this spring heading into Thursday.

"I have been around too long to talk about (spring training) results," Cubs manager Dale Sveum said. "When you know you are on a team, to worry about results isn't it. We look at whether his mechanics are right or if he is throwing strikes. Command is something we look at as well. It is the dog days of spring. Everyone is giving what they have but it also is time to go."

Feldman allowed one run through the first three innings before surrendering a three-run home run to Alex Castellanos in the fourth. Feldman helped his own cause with an RBI single in the fifth.

"I feel pretty good with three of my four pitches," Feldman said.
"My changeup is one that I haven't thrown enough this spring. The ones I have thrown they really aren't game ready."

Feldman should have two more outings before his first regular season start. Pitching coaches normally back down their starting pitchers to about 60 pitches for their last spring appearance.

"I have had good and bad springs in the past in Arizona," Feldman said. "For the most part I have been throwing the ball well. If I was walking a lot of guys I would be concerned. I want to work on my change the last 10 days but I feel very confident with the rest of my stuff."

The Cubs, who break camp on March 28, have not announced where Feldman will pitch on March 31 in his last spring tuneup.
